wow. my 1st teachers' day as a teacher. after so many years, i finally know how my teachers feel on this very special day.
i often wonder why i chose a vocation requiring the following:
- waking up at 6am every working day
- staying in the office till almost 6pm every working day
- working on public holidays without a replacement off day
- putting up with boisterous noisy kids (and the occasional defiant, disrespectful ones)
- occasionally having to shout at the top of my voice at some of the above mentioned
- patience, patience and more patience (something i really lack =x)
- seemingly endless work even after leaving the office (marking, preparing lessons, setting tests and exams, calling parents, organising events, counseling, consoling... to name a few)
today somehow makes everything (the sweat, the tears, the stress, the frustration) all worthwhile.
the thoughtfulness of the kids today touched me - the words they pen down on little notes, cards and slips of paper, the effort that goes into preparing the gifts, the smiles on their faces as they say "happy teachers' day"... it warms the heart to know that what has been done for them has made a difference to their learning, and hopefully their lives.
okay before i end, here's a peek into my loot =P

from my colleagues

complied notes from students (by the prefects)

from my co-form class 3T1 (really touched cuz i didn't expect it, especially from one of the
sot sot girls who has given all the teachers quite a bit of problems in the past. got feedback from some teachers that she's better now =) )

from my sec 1s which i taught during practicum (these kids never fail to make me smile whenever i see them. they're just soooo sweet)

from my sec 2s (so much chocolates =x fat le. cannot eat liao. there's also a "sandwich" made by a student who eats breakfast in my class. it's a heart-shaped french toast with a little jam spread on at the top. the 3 small tubs are jelly, but melted into liquid by the time i got it, the kids told me to place them in the fridge before eating. received a photo frame with a picture of 2 kids too)

from my sec 3s (eh.. yes, that's sushi in the picture, it's quite yummy =P 2 savoury egg tarts which i had to pass to my ahma to finish cuz it contains meat =x)

the enitre loot from all the kids =)
i'm really touched and overjoyed to receive all the gifts from the kids, but i'd rather they write me a note or card and save the money. not to mention i may have trouble finding space in my already messy room to place all the loot. oops =P
this truly is a day of memories.
