 back @ 3:52 PM
back from my trip. it's been a great trip all in all, minus the fact that i missed almost the whole mass except the final blessing, the one hour delay of the return flight and all the stuff we had to lug back. okay, the last one doesn't seem like such a bad thing, but there was so much excess baggage that couldn't be checked in that we had an average of 2 hand carry luggages. oops. spent like 3 times the amount that i intended to, which is about S$450, but on unpacking i found only 2 tops, a pair of sandals, a number of cards and a couple of other things that belong to me. haha. the things there pretty cheap.. if you don't go for brands. the hand-made stuff there are sooo pretty. i was so tempted to buy up the whole shop. hehe. don't think i've ever spent so much money in a week before, not to mention shopping for an average of 6 hours daily for 6 consecutive days. haha. oops.there are lots of places that are great for shopping, including night markets. the traffic there can be quite bad, but not as bad as bangkok i think. it's really scary to see people, especially children peddling their goods or begging in the middle of the road. i'm told i haven't even been to the poorest parts of the country. the lifestyle of the people there are very different. you could say they're the happy-go-lucky sort, or if you'd like to put it in another way, they basically don't plan for the future. they'd spend all they have and even borrow money if there's an occasion to celebrate. oh yes, i did my first ever foot spa (~ S$10) and pedicure(~$2.50) there. think the quality of the pedicure isn't that good compared to the ones you get locally. not sure about the foot spa though. got my hair cut for S$3, don't really like it but it's not that bad i'm told. it can be rather dangerous there.. pickpockets are one thing to worry about. once we were at a night market and a fight broke out, causing us to seek refuge inside a shop. i'm also told that hand-to-hand fights aren't much of a concern and what we should worry about is if there's gunfire. of course these aren't things you see everyday. so don't be discouraged from making a trip there. in fact i think it's somewhere i'd considering spending my retirement years in. the people are warm and friendly, and if you're a shopping fanatic, you'd be happy to know that they're very service-oriented too. oh man, i feel like going back there now. hehe.
