ohana chalet @ 12:54 PM

ahh i've been lazy. don't expect a 5k or more than 5k essay this time. i'm not gonna recall all the happenings, cuz i think my memory has deteriorated. but considering my long-windedness, this may end up pretty lengthy. ok here goes.

14 december 2007

woke up pretty early to help my ahma with some food prep. realised i had forgot to get otah and satay and so decided to send out smses to see if anyone could get them. on my way out to collect the cake from plaza sing, i realised i could pop by hougang to see if i could get any. and so i did. managed to get a hold of the otah but not the satay. brought 40 sticks of otah to plaza sing and back home. received a sms from owllie on my way back saying that she just woke and was coming over. continued with food prep once i got home. my cousin - azzy (preston) was already here while owllie arrived shortly. we had lunch while waiting for my ahma to cook the last of the food. the 3 of us lugged our belongings together with 1 tray of fried rice, 4kg of chicken wings, 1kg of stingray, 40 sticks of otah, 1 rice cooker filled with curry, the birthday cake, 1 wire mesh for the bbq pit, and some snacks to the void deck. had called a cab as i thought that it'd be mad to bring all these to the main road.

arrived at the chalet slightly past 2pm. lugging everything to the check-in counter from the main road where we alighted was a challenge - balancing act (trying not to trip over the stuff and our own feet) and strongman act (show me the muscles!!! =x). haha. ok that ways lame, but i think it was necessary cuz i bet you were falling asleep before this. we were told upon reaching that the room was not yet ready and we had to wait till 2.30. we sat around to catch our breadth, and we were surprised by justin/kiro (ex-ohanian, think only owllie, shaun, SG and nat knows him ba). but apparently he said he ain't surprised to see us. anyway we managed to check-in at around 2.20. we got block L! furthest one in!!! *roarr* room 2112. nice number though. =P now comes more lugging, and i thought the trip from the main road to the check-in counter was bad. sheesh. and i thought that that was a challenge. by the time we got to the chalet we we so shacked. owl plonked on the bed, while i had to restrain myself from doing so. after taking our short but much needed break we left the chalet and made our way to the bus stop to meet the rest of the gang at white sands to pick up the rest of the groceries and stuff needed for the bbq. we were joined by justin. he was pretty chatty, talking about old times and asking about things with the guild now. well, all i know of him is that he was the person who started the poetry thread in ohanatown forum.

on reaching white sands we were joined by destiny (xinyu) and mager (gerald) who were on time. shaun, SG, kaka, ivan, howdy, totti and todia (totti's didi) followed. owllie and me started shopping while those who were early and on time sat at macs and talked. figured we didn't need that many people to shop but needed the hands (muscles?) to bring the stuff back. picked up ~$116 of groceries and stuff. somehow we were split into 3 groups on leaving white sands. owllie, totti, todi, shaun, ivan, howdy and myself got on the bus to the chalet only to find that the rest were no where in sight. got a call from mager saying they were stopped by some people and were hence delayed. owllie and me went shopping at cheers once we were back at the chalet. we picked out 3 pairs of slippers - pink, purple and green for each one of OMT. guess which colour was for who. =P

bummed around in the chalet till around 4+ before owllie and totti accompanied me out to pass my mum a spare phone and collect a styrofoam box. we had eh.. a little dessert before even having dinner. courtesy of totti! (i still want the earthquake! =x) we each had a scoop of B&J. YUMMY! stopped at cheers to pick up some ice and booked the bbq pit as the heavy drizzle had lightened up. oh yah, owllie and me were trying to block up the fridge to prevent someone from looking into it. but that someone go spoil our surprise by opening the fridge after getting outta the toilet lor. bad bad bad. *roarr* luckily the box didn't indicate the name of the shop.

starting up the fire took us some time and because we ain't too pro, the fire wasn't all that hot and the food didn't seem to be cooking. heng our head chef - jin wei came to the rescue. he got a really nice fire going and brought really nice prawns and fresh basil leaves to spice up the food! thankfully he did cuz we bought fish fillet which wouldn't have tasted half as good without the basil. many thanks to him and the guys - howdy, jordan and ivan for doing most of the cooking. we were joined my boon2, rainie, andy and yan later in the evening. oh yes, OMT but some weird coincidence or perhap telepathy all brought pink tops. totti and me were wearing them already, and we made owllie change into hers =P

that night the food was great, but the company greater =)
we proceeded to cut the birthday cake at around 9 plus as yan had to go off. was a couple of hours from totti birthday and about 26 hours plus to ivan's. we took out the "pandan" cake and set up everything before inviting the birthday girl and boy in. what followed was kinda amusing. got a picture of each of them with the cake but when it came to taking a pic of both of them, it was so funny. they were like so far apart we had to tell them to close up the canyon between them. poor ivan also got bullied by totti (see the pics for what happened =P). the cake cutting was even more hilarious. think neither of them wanted to hold the other's hand to cut the cake so they ended up holding the front and back of the knife.

OMTR had a sudden urge for.... ktv again!! haha. we booked PW at loyang from 11pm - 2am (they close at 2). we cabbed down as it was already 10 mins to 11pm when we decided on this. yes yes, once again proving to be the last minute people we are. lol. those of us who arrived at loyang point later had trouble finding the entrance to PW. we went like up and down different flights of stairs before we finally made it to PW. *roarr* ulu place.

we were given a room too small for all of us to sit comfortably as we had booked for 8 but there were 11. on careful consideration, we decided to switch the VIP room which mean an extra $1-2 each as the room would be bigger and we'd get 4 extra drinks. not too bad i'd say. if not for the fact that the remote control and/or sensor was kinda sucky. must aim the remote from certain place at a certain angle for the sensor to detect. zzz. but other than that, i must say that this ktv was perhaps the most fun. i mean how often is it possible to gather 11 people you know into 1 ktv room? furthermore, everyone sang. ivan, jor and shaun sang a couple of songs each, and even kaka and dest got to sing at least half a song ba. i realised that all of them can sing de wor. jor knows quite a lot songs *hint hint* ivan, jor and shaun next time must come join us ktv again. kaka and dest i think a bit hard cuz we usually go in the night. =x oh yah.. dunno who's blog go say OM 带坏小孩子and her lor. next time we don't jio her le owllie. hmph.

this ktv was one filled with much laughter and cheer. pity we didn't book earlier and get to sing the usual 4 hours. the 2 couples, owllie and me cabbed back from loyang point while the rest decided to take an early morning stroll, which took about 30 minutes?



the guys - azzy, mager, SG and todi were still watching LOTR when we got back. next screening was coach carter. i had watched the movie 3 times before this. kinda like it cuz it's one of those with a good storyline (based on true story i believe) and has a basketball theme =P haha. after the show we all went into concussion mode. there wasn't sufficient place to sleep so some of the guys - azzy, ivan, kaka, mager and SG didn't sleep. all the guys who didn't sleep with the exception of ivan went around the chalet and even ventured to white sands eventually. ivan was glued to his psp. lol. jor slept on the floor =x paiseh guys. next year i'll try my best to book aloha loyang. at least should have enough room from sleeping. but maybe not enough beds so bring sleeping bags =P i think aloha has like 2 queen and 4 singles or 2 single beds and 2 double-deck beds. so should be more space ba. remind me 3 months before the intended date to book. haha. that's how the system works.

we woke around 8 plus which was pretty early considering most of us slept around 4.30am or later. i guessed on a normal day at home i'd be pretty grouchy if i got that little sleep but that morning even though we all had little to sleep or didn't sleep at all, i believe we all awoke feeling good about the night before and looked forward to the coming day. 1st up, breakfast! a hungry man is an angry man =x most of the gang wanted macs so we went into macs only to realise that there weren't sufficient for all of us. so the rest proceeded to bk while owllie and me went to get subway. must say that the foot-long sub is really worthwhile. 9+ but can be shared by 2 people and its healthy! after breakfast the rest went back to the chalet while owllie and me ventured around while waiting for totti. ended up at the arcade where we shot hoops! feels so good to hold a basketball in my hands again. haven't played basketball in what seems like forever. never realised that shooting hoops consecutively could be this tiring. okay maybe i'm just really rusty. think both of us ended up with aching shoulders =x we were joined by totti shortly after and made our way back towards the chalet. stopped by the little bird sanctuary on the way back. there were 3 parrots - white, red and grey. the white one was extremely sociable and 不怕生. owllie and me held it and took some pics. owllie took a couple of close-up shots of it while holding it. you gotta ask her for the pics of the close-up if you want it though. don't have it with me =x

got back to the chalet and bummed around for a bit. tried to take a nap but to no avail. so OMT decided to go take a walk around downtown east. we browsed the shops located at the atrium and on walking back towards the chalet, our eyes caught sight of some banners stating that there was some extreme sporting event with skateboards, bicycles and rollerblades going on in the huge tent in the open field just in front of the atrium. best part was it was FREE ADMISSION! haha. yay! so we went in and found ourselves some front row seats. the bicycle stunts were on. not too bad but somehow it feels far from those you'd see on AXN. some stunts were pretty good, but i remember seeing more spills (ouch!) than thrills =x nonetheless it was quite a good way of killing off some time. we got a little hungry by then. was about 3pm then. we decided to have late lunch at one of those little eateries just outside the chalet entrance. each had a bowl of noodles and a drink. the food price quite ok. like $3 each, but the drinks... seemed to cost like $2 or more. zzz. at least they tasted not too bad. owllie liked the sour plum drink. not bad =) totti ordered noodles that looked like maggie mee =x but she say very long never eat maggie mee le. LOL

we called the rest after we had settled down to eat. by this time, most of them had awakened, but they ended up at the foodcourt instead. we finished our meal and went over to look for them. everyone was having something or other with the exception of IVAN! *roarr* he never eat breakfast, never eat lunch!! make OMT 出马. we got him a pancake sorta thing with cheese and ham. and dumped it on him. dunno if he liked it, but too bad lor. who ask him never buy himself. don't like also must eat. muahaha. after dropping off ivan's lunch OMT, dest and todi made our way to the beach. we found a relatively less muddy and starting tossing frisbee (courtesy of shaun). we were joined by the rest shortly after and our "circle" grew in size. throughout the whole time we were tossing the frisbee, some of us were also trimming the trees - totti, ivan, jor and even myself =P thankfully the frisbee didn't get stuck in the trees. haha. totti was dodging the frisbee more than catching it towards the end. i guess most of us are rather noob at frisbee tossing so dodging was a rather wise choice =x unfortunately she didn't manage to dodge the 1 toss (was it even a toss? hmm.. dunno. i'm not the pro) she should have. think it was a pretty hard hit on the neck. cuz she was tearing despite saying that it was okay =(

brought totti to the toilet which was situated at least 200m away so that she could wash up a little and so that i could pick up something cold to ice her neck. didn't manage to get any ice so i settled with a can of chilled green tea. we saw that the shop sold kites and decided to pick up one cuz owllie has been wanting to fly a kite since like dunno how long ago when we were saying we wanted to go down to marina south for steamboat/frisbee/kite-flying. we got a pikachu one =P cuz owllie got a huge pikachu at home. also got some sparkles which we planned on using later on at night (we didn't use in the end). OMT ended up kite-flying for a bit while the rest continued with their game of frisbee. i remember the kite almost falling into the tree. heng owllie pro. haha. on seeing that the weather would probably hold up at least for a hour, we decided to rent bikes. we each got bikes with the exception of kaka and ivan. poor guys! you know what they did?! they ran after us! i mean yes, they run really fast. but can you imagine them doing that all around for like half an hour or more? poor guys ended up perspiring until they were like soaked. we reached the end of the cycling track and took a group pic with our bikes. kaka and ivan eventually met us there. think we lost them for a bit =x



on seeing the dark clouds in the distance, we decided it would be wise to ride back toward the bike rental shop. we all chionged back on our bikes, while kaka and ivan ran/jogged *sob* think the entire group split up into a few smaller ones. met up with kaka and ivan back at the track near the bike rental shop where we insisted that they try to cycle. ivan didn't have too much a problem cuz he learnt how to cycle before. kaka had a bit of difficulty at the start but got better towards the end. pity we had to return the bikes. if not i'm sure with his persistence he would have made it. like what totti said, its quite cute and somewhat heart-warming? seeing the 2 of them, especially kaka so serious. KAKA next time we go some park outing you must learn how to cycle again!!

next up was bbq again! we picked up some stuff at cheers on our way back to the chalet. needed a new wire mesh, ice and charcoal. we each picked up some snacks and drinks of our own. didn't expect it, but our head chef returned!! haha. this time i also slack le. think it's the 1st bbq i've been to that i didn't cook a single thing. oops =x THANKS AGAIN JIN WEI, IVAN, JOR, SHAUN & TODI! imagine our food was not only cooked but delivered to us!!! 感动 *sob*

after everyone got back into the room, we started playing some card games. jor, shaun and me, the only 3 who knew how to play bridge was teaching the rest how to play it. think most of them caught on eventually. i played a game of uno then concussed for about an hour? woke up to find all the rest still playing card games. i remember the uno game being very amusing all due to the implementation of the "draw till you can put a card" rule. mager was having a very blue night cuz his hand refused to draw a blue card even after drawing a relatively large number of cards. i remember him exclaiming "wah lau! such a thick stack of cards and no blue!" haha. amusing! very amusing! after the game of cards we all arranged our sleeping positions. think everyone cmi le. cannot don't sleep liao. we all got to sleep on beds with the exception of ivan, jin wei, jor and shaun who slept on the floor with only the blanket separating them from the cold hard floor =x paiseh guys. next year, promise i'll try my best to get aloha loyang.

we all woke around 8+ as the check out time was 10am. think most of us were still zonked out. the funniest thing was realising the guys who slept on the lower bed - todi, mager, SG and kaka all ended up with no blanket except for mager and SG to a smaller extent. haha. poor todi and kaka got their share of the blanket stolen. we all washed up and did our own packing and a quick clean up of the room. quick = throw away anything that we don't plan to bring home =P lugged all our stuff to the check-out counter, dropped off the key and it was breakfast once again. ivan, jin wei and jor left cuz they had something on. the rest of us, followed the same routine as in the day before. lol. owllie and me dapao subway to bk to join the rest. was funny seeing the younger guys all so shacked considering their usually chatty selves. SG was like concussing on the table at bk while mager and kaka were stoning.

decided to go back to the arcade to shoot more hoops after breakfast since we had the pros with us - boon2 and todi. think we spent like $20 or more just shooting hoops that morning. haha. OMT shoot until arms wanna fall off and legs like jelly le. peng san le. but it was fun! nice workout too. haha. let's have a real game of basketball sometime =x after that all really dead beat le. owllie, boon2 and me shared a cab. owllie helped me with the stuff back up to my place before going off to take a bus home. thanks owllie!

that marked the end of our cass ohana chalet. must say that it has been a pleasure getting to know everyone and that it was wonderful being able to spend this time together with all of you. during this 3 days and 2 nights, we all had tonnes of laughter, cracked loads of lame jokes and suan-ed each other alot. all these are memories i'd treasure. this entry though probably not all that complete is a record and reminder of the wonderful memories shared and the bonds forged. somehow feel that this chalet has brought us closer in ways unimaginable. like i mentioned in the genting post, some memories are best treasure in the heart and not in words.

got back to the chalet and bummed around for a bit. tried to take a nap but to no avail. so OMT decided to go take a walk around downtown east. we browsed the shops located at the atrium and on walking back towards the chalet, our eyes caught sight of some banners stating that there was some extreme sporting event with skateboards, bicycles and rollerblades going on in the huge tent in the open field just in front of the atrium. best part was it was FREE ADMISSION! haha. yay! so we went in and found ourselves some front row seats. the bicycle stunts were on. not too bad but somehow it feels far from those you'd see on AXN. some stunts were pretty good, but i remember seeing more spills (ouch!) than thrills =x nonetheless it was quite a good way of killing off some time. we got a little hungry by then. was about 3pm then. we decided to have late lunch at one of those little eateries just outside the chalet entrance. each had a bowl of noodles and a drink. the food price quite ok. like $3 each, but the drinks... seemed to cost like $2 or more. zzz. at least they tasted not too bad. owllie liked the sour plum drink. not bad =) totti ordered noodles that looked like maggie mee =x but she say very long never eat maggie mee le. LOL

we called the rest after we had settled down to eat. by this time, most of them had awakened, but they ended up at the foodcourt instead. we finished our meal and went over to look for them. everyone was having something or other with the exception of IVAN! *roarr* he never eat breakfast, never eat lunch!! make OMT 出马. we got him a pancake sorta thing with cheese and ham. and dumped it on him. dunno if he liked it, but too bad lor. who ask him never buy himself. don't like also must eat. muahaha. after dropping off ivan's lunch OMT, dest and todi made our way to the beach. we found a relatively less muddy and starting tossing frisbee (courtesy of shaun). we were joined by the rest shortly after and our "circle" grew in size. throughout the whole time we were tossing the frisbee, some of us were also trimming the trees - totti, ivan, jor and even myself =P thankfully the frisbee didn't get stuck in the trees. haha. totti was dodging the frisbee more than catching it towards the end. i guess most of us are rather noob at frisbee tossing so dodging was a rather wise choice =x unfortunately she didn't manage to dodge the 1 toss (was it even a toss? hmm.. dunno. i'm not the pro) she should have. think it was a pretty hard hit on the neck. cuz she was tearing despite saying that it was okay =(

brought totti to the toilet which was situated at least 200m away so that she could wash up a little and so that i could pick up something cold to ice her neck. didn't manage to get any ice so i settled with a can of chilled green tea. we saw that the shop sold kites and decided to pick up one cuz owllie has been wanting to fly a kite since like dunno how long ago when we were saying we wanted to go down to marina south for steamboat/frisbee/kite-flying. we got a pikachu one =P cuz owllie got a huge pikachu at home. also got some sparkles which we planned on using later on at night (we didn't use in the end). OMT ended up kite-flying for a bit while the rest continued with their game of frisbee. i remember the kite almost falling into the tree. heng owllie pro. haha. on seeing that the weather would probably hold up at least for a hour, we decided to rent bikes. we each got bikes with the exception of kaka and ivan. poor guys! you know what they did?! they ran after us! i mean yes, they run really fast. but can you imagine them doing that all around for like half an hour or more? poor guys ended up perspiring until they were like soaked. we reached the end of the cycling track and took a group pic with our bikes. kaka and ivan eventually met us there. think we lost them for a bit =x



on seeing the dark clouds in the distance, we decided it would be wise to ride back toward the bike rental shop. we all chionged back on our bikes, while kaka and ivan ran/jogged *sob* think the entire group split up into a few smaller ones. met up with kaka and ivan back at the track near the bike rental shop where we insisted that they try to cycle. ivan didn't have too much a problem cuz he learnt how to cycle before. kaka had a bit of difficulty at the start but got better towards the end. pity we had to return the bikes. if not i'm sure with his persistence he would have made it. like what totti said, its quite cute and somewhat heart-warming? seeing the 2 of them, especially kaka so serious. KAKA next time we go some park outing you must learn how to cycle again!!

next up was bbq again! we picked up some stuff at cheers on our way back to the chalet. needed a new wire mesh, ice and charcoal. we each picked up some snacks and drinks of our own. didn't expect it, but our head chef returned!! haha. this time i also slack le. think it's the 1st bbq i've been to that i didn't cook a single thing. oops =x THANKS AGAIN JIN WEI, IVAN, JOR, SHAUN & TODI! imagine our food was not only cooked but delivered to us!!! 感动 *sob*

after everyone got back into the room, we started playing some card games. jor, shaun and me, the only 3 who knew how to play bridge was teaching the rest how to play it. think most of them caught on eventually. i played a game of uno then concussed for about an hour? woke up to find all the rest still playing card games. i remember the uno game being very amusing all due to the implementation of the "draw till you can put a card" rule. mager was having a very blue night cuz his hand refused to draw a blue card even after drawing a relatively large number of cards. i remember him exclaiming "wah lau! such a thick stack of cards and no blue!" haha. amusing! very amusing! after the game of cards we all arranged our sleeping positions. think everyone cmi le. cannot don't sleep liao. we all got to sleep on beds with the exception of ivan, jin wei, jor and shaun who slept on the floor with only the blanket separating them from the cold hard floor =x paiseh guys. next year, promise i'll try my best to get aloha loyang.

we all woke around 8+ as the check out time was 10am. think most of us were still zonked out. the funniest thing was realising the guys who slept on the lower bed - todi, mager, SG and kaka all ended up with no blanket except for mager and SG to a smaller extent. haha. poor todi and kaka got their share of the blanket stolen. we all washed up and did our own packing and a quick clean up of the room. quick = throw away anything that we don't plan to bring home =P lugged all our stuff to the check-out counter, dropped off the key and it was breakfast once again. ivan, jin wei and jor left cuz they had something on. the rest of us, followed the same routine as in the day before. lol. owllie and me dapao subway to bk to join the rest. was funny seeing the younger guys all so shacked considering their usually chatty selves. SG was like concussing on the table at bk while mager and kaka were stoning.

decided to go back to the arcade to shoot more hoops after breakfast since we had the pros with us - boon2 and todi. think we spent like $20 or more just shooting hoops that morning. haha. OMT shoot until arms wanna fall off and legs like jelly le. peng san le. but it was fun! nice workout too. haha. let's have a real game of basketball sometime =x after that all really dead beat le. owllie, boon2 and me shared a cab. owllie helped me with the stuff back up to my place before going off to take a bus home. thanks owllie!

that marked the end of our cass ohana chalet. must say that it has been a pleasure getting to know everyone and that it was wonderful being able to spend this time together with all of you. during this 3 days and 2 nights, we all had tonnes of laughter, cracked loads of lame jokes and suan-ed each other alot. all these are memories i'd treasure. this entry though probably not all that complete is a record and reminder of the wonderful memories shared and the bonds forged. somehow feel that this chalet has brought us closer in ways unimaginable. like i mentioned in the genting post, some memories are best treasure in the heart and not in words.
