 Wednesday, December 12, 2007  recollections @ 3:37 PM it's been slightly over a year since i started mapling and about 11 and a half months being in Ohana. i must say that it has been a fun one year playing maple. somehow, i must give credit to my cousin for getting me interested in maple. no, he didn't introduce the game to me. he got hooked on it and i wanted to see what was it that he got hooked on. =x also, he did fund my current character and most importantly got me into Ohana when i was 4x.if i recall correctly, i joined Ohana on the 22nd december 2006, when they were having a Christmas exchange in-game. come to think of it, Ohana has really been like family to me, right from when i joined. despite being a totally new member then, i got presents from at least 4 people. being the noobie that i was then, i had nothing to give in return. but no one minded. The GM den was kaiwei (ribosome) with owllie (Owlstarr), shaun (lcycooI), nat (xxecargxx), SG (SGx1aosins1n) and preston (Azerine) as junior masters. the guild was small back then, perhaps 30-40 members. i remember the ladies nights owllie, beeyen (by3n) and myself had. we used to be the only 3 members online past 1am. i remember the both of them popping by platoon chronos to visit, and we'd end up sitting in the middle of the map and chat past 2am. i also remember how owllie always wanted to bbq byen's xiaopangzhu. there was once their pets started jumping on the 3 little bricks in the middle of the platoon chronos map. we were all looking to see whose pet was faster and being the only one without a pet then, i decided to join the pet jumping competition... and guess wad? i lost!! i was a terrible jumper then. (recently improved a little, thanks to the guild party quest =P) the 3 of us also partied at coolies before.. before the implementation of the new coolie maps with the timer. byen and owllie were snipers then. think byen was 7x and owllie 8x? the highest level member then was shaun at 11x? memory failing me. hmmm... think i have alot of 缘 with snipers/crossbow masters. haha
let me recall my training spots after i moved on from platoon chronos. think it was wraiths, and mainly coolies - this was where i earned most of my mesos. oh yes, i got my pet monkey around the end of 2006 or beginning of 2007. zzz. can't remember le. anyway i got a monkey to remind me of a junior and good friend i have who's currently doing medicine in aussy. the pet was really useful over at coolies. saved me loads of time looting the drops.
something else i recall was the super snowboard event. 6 different snowboards were required to make one of those - sky, aqua, silver, gold, dark and blood. i remember quite a number of us going around in a party to hunt for these and we'd hunt until everyone got theirs and even hunted an extra one or two for those who weren't online. it was really amazing how closely-knitted the guild was. i guess it's really "where comes to family, nobody gets left behind."
sometime early this year, byen took leave for studies. seen her once or twice in game after that, but i believe she has quitted the game. i can't remember the exact date, but earlier this year as well, Ohana was reformed. kaiwei wasn't as active and i guess we needed a GM who is moderately active or at least one in which the JRs had access to the account. this marked another milestone for Ohana. this new Ohana was one in which the GM was a mule and all JRs had access to the account. at this point in time, the JRs were kaiwei, owllie, shaun and nat. i believe owllie had surpassed shaun in terms of level by this time and i had reached third job - priest. i remember most of us gathering at orbis - the place were guilds were disbanded and formed. i remember we all had to wear our uniforms - bathrobe/sauna robe and a starry bandana. i think owllie and shaun were the main people who funded the setting up of the new guild =x. must have cost a bomb.i felt that after the guild was reformed, we were kinda brought closer as those who were MIA-ing hadn't been added back to the guild and we were rather small in numbers. it was almost as if we would see everyone in the guild log on at least once or twice a week.i remember training at bains when i was around 8x. made a few ice/lightning mage buddies while i was there. think i still have at least 2 of them in my buddy list. i recall training with wei jun (sagspearz) and nat at bains. it was funny cuz sag was still kinda low in level and hence kept missing the bains. nat had and still has a bad connection and thus kept getting disconnected. this wasn't too bad a problem, unless she was in the midst of attacking a bain. i remember seeing the bains spewing fireballs all over. it was a total chaos. yet another problem was the gunboss that would spawn occasionally, sometimes they do so in pairs. zzz. which of course was a problem given our low level then. hence we would call in reinforcement. namely owllie and shaun. haha. thanks again =) you both rock!right up to this point, Ohana was still a small, cosy guild with only 2 people above 10x. yup.. you know the names. hehe. think owllie and shaun were both 12x then.
i made level 92 somtime around may this year and moved outta bains to the sotong map. can finally join owllie in training! even though i just played a supporting role by providing HS/bless/heal. i then became on official leecher and looter (ahbee number 2). shaun joined us occasionally.
dodo joined the guild sometime towards end may or beginning of june. was quite amusing cuz i imagined her and her character to be female from her ign "tottochan32". then i met her character in-game which turned out to be a male. got really confused then. cuz i'm not the sort that outrightly asks a person's gender. anyway i think i eventually found out that the main person using tottochan32 is a female (her brother plays the character sometimes). from then on it was a regular sotong party with owllie and dodo (sometimes shaun) and their buddies. come to think of it, most of my buddies are those i'd met at sotongs, and a number of them are like dodo's buddies. kinda miss partying there. anyway, i was at leveling there till about 10x. think dodo's blog as a SS of one of our parties there - a full sniper party. so cool! see.. i say i got alot of 缘 with snipers le.
with dodo joining, i would say it marked the new, yet not so new Ohana. i admit the 3 of us were kinda clique-ish, hence the founding? of OMT - owl, mel, totto or as some would call it, Ohana monster trio/team. but we were never totally detached from the guild. perhaps with the joining of more and more members, the guild changed and became somewhat less homily? it's really weird because the recruitment for members changed from open to closed but yet we were accepting more members (friends of members) after the recruitment status changed to closed. perhaps we should have totally closed recruitment back then, or perhaps we should have been more stringent with the screening of new members. but this wasn't easy as these new members were friends of existing members. it really feels like being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
a few months back the leafre maps were released and we all moved on from sotongs (owllie had already moved on by then to the shark and mong maps). we managed to jio dodo once for mongs and after she saw the rate the experience points were moving compared to sotongs its was not rare to hear her say "let's go mong long-ing". anyway due to the lack of maps at mongs, we all eventually migrated to the maps in leafre, especially the cornians (more fondly or not so fondly known as lizzy), skelegons, skelosarus and nest golems. these mobs are extremely painful and i guess it was where we used up most of our charms.
about a month ago, 4th job was released and we've all since made the advancement (yes, i finally made 120 and have since been stuck at 121 for over 2 weeks. haha). we're all currently slacking more or less. mainly hunting skill books from the different bosses, which still REFUSE to drop the necessary ones. *roarr*
anyway, on the 12th of december the O of OMT clicked the leave guild button, and seeing that she wasn't planning on coming back, M and T followed. perhaps it was a rash decision on our part, but what's OMT with the "O". i was telling dodo over dinner yesterday that O is needed to spell Ohana but not M and T. but we had been informed of her decision to leave some time back.
to owllie: i know you never wanted to be in a leadership position, but yet you contributed so much to the guild and brought it to where it is now. without you, i doubt we'd be where we are. i for one don't think i'd have made it to 4th job and all. you deserve a good break from managing the guild. i hope you'd be able to pursue the things you want to in maple (and in life of course). not matter what you do, we'll always be behind you. Ohana or no Ohana, we'll be OMT.
dodo and me have joined the guild again last night, i'm not sure how long we'll be there, or in maple for that matter. what i do know is that Ohana has changed in a way that i'm not all too happy and comfortable about. nonetheless, there are still people in the guild whom are worth staying for.
as i've mention in ppf, ohana will always be a part of me even when i have ceased to be a part of it eventually. <3>
